The 44 Caliber BB’s music is a blend of equal portions of Beale Street Blues, Baltimore Boogie, Biloxi Backbeat, and Bayou Bump and Grind spiced up with a taste of Chi-town shuffle, South City Soul, Cactus Crunch, and Sausalito Sizzle served hot and rocking. Like blended bourbon it goes down smooth with a nice kick.
Mr. Z. – guitar, vocals, and talk box – A founding member of Pegasus in the late 1970’s, he left the group prior to its moderate success to get married. He then set the guitar down for over 25 years while working for a major corporation and establishing his family. When health concerns forced his retirement he picked up the guitar again and after short stints with One Night Only, Legally Sound, and Gridley John’s Blues Band, he founded the 44 Caliber BB in 2004.
Jack Montague-Bass-Jacks formal musical training began with 6 years playing trumpet starting in grade school and continuing through high school band and orchestra. With the British invasion of the 60’s he decided that guitar was the way to go. With tutelage in the form of records from influences such as the Rolling Stones, Zombies, Kinks, Cream and Hendrix he was self-taught on the guitar. He was playing in a cover bands in So California a few short months after first picking up the guitar. In the early 70’s he dropped out of the band scene to devote time to college, work, marriage, mortgage etc. Then, took up playing again for personal enjoyment in mid 80’s. After years of noodleing around on guitar he started attending local jams to experience playing in a group setting again which started his switch to bass, as there were always too many great guitar players and no one to play bass. Enjoying the bass even more than guitar he sought out a permanent playing situation, which turned out to be Mr. Z and the 44 Caliber BB in 2004. There he has been happily holding down the bottom line!
Nelson Kaiser-Drums, backing vocals- Nelson started playing in 1989 with Coyote, a wedding and party band and The Tomcats, a jazz quintet as well as various rock and blues bands. Nelson is a lifelong northern Californian who in 1994 took to some serious wood shedding time to perfect his talents. An avid motorcycle rider and mechanic he prefers drumming because “When I mess up it doesn’t take me six months to heal!”
Bob Speegle - saxophone, flute, clarinet, keyboards, and vocals- A native to Chico California he began his music career at sixteen with his own band appearing on KHSL as well as many dances and shows throughout the north state. Bob is a graduate of Chico State University majoring in instrumental and vocal music with a minor in speech and drama. He has produced and arranged for The Valley Balladeers. He received a management and recording contract with Buck Ram of Coasters and Platters fame. Bob has toured the world with the show group The Main Street Singers. Written and designed shows for E.F. McDonald, Merits, S&H Green Stamps, and Gold Bond. He has written original compositions for General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Sealy Mattress, IBM, Dairy Queen, and a host of others. He has worked with the prestigious Capitol Booking, The Buddy Lee Agency, The Ted Skorman Agency, and Disney World. He has written and performed on the famed Dixie Queen River Boat and his last recording prior to joining the 44 Caliber BB was the with world famous Mo town greats The Temptations! Every band should have a true blue professional musician and he is ours!
